Inspiration for this series  - Real Utopias - is taken from Joel Sternfeld's statement that ‘Some people consider Utopia to be derived from nature. For some people, Utopia is the city.’ Black and white photographs of the city have been layered with images of plants, flowers and traces of nature to reflect on our ambivalence towards the urban environment and ask whether utopias already exist in the here and now.

Jane Ross is London-based photographer, interested in discovering and documenting the overlooked, discarded and forgotten, and exploring how photography can help us capture memory, retrieve the past, and deal with loss. She holds an MA in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography from London College of Communication (UAL),  and her work has been exhibited in group and solo shows in the UK, France, Hungary, Italy, Spain and the USA.
