The White Lady (Ladi Wen) is a wandering apparition peculiar to Wales and associated with Halloween, the festival of Winterfall – when darkness returns and the veil between the living and the dead thins. Little is written about her, but a rare Victorian book has this to say about an encounter: ‘opposite a pool on the road side she disappeared, in the form of a ball of fire, into the water’.
