The remains of hyenas, hippopotami, elephants and bisons have been found at Brentford, as well as evidence suggesting it has been populated since the stone age. Brentford is now home to high-tech companies such as Dell and GSK. Shot with a variety of pictorialist soft-focus lenses, these images capture locations along the Thames and the River Brent where these histories are simultaneously evident, and where the struggle with modernisation is revealed.

Simon Kennedy is an award-winning architectural photographer, filmmaker and artist based in London. Simon is also a fully qualified architect, working with high-profile clients throughout the UK and beyond. Simon’s personal work is concerned with space and its design, and ways it can be altered or regenerated through photographic representation and intervention.
