FOOD = ART looks into Xavier’s archive as a commercial food photographer over the last decade and presents the finest ingredients in their most natural form elevating them to the status of unique art pieces. With this project Xavier challenges the viewer to think about the origin and sustainability of these ingredients as they make their way to our table sometimes thousands of miles from their origin. He invites us to meditate about our disproportionate consumerist habits as this ingredients become rarer. Art might be the only way we will be able to enjoy them in the future.
Xavier is an award winning photographer and artist originally from Mexico City based in Brighton since 2009. He started his career as a commercial food photographer. In recent years he has expanded his interest in storytelling, focusing on the depths of the human potential, highlighting the physical, intellectual, and emotional talents people have. His personal work explores his curiosities through artistic expressions in the form of prints and self published photo-books and zines.
